Laura Katz, Ph.D., NCSP, is a nationally certified school psychologist. She received her Ph.D. in School Psychology from Temple University and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Katz’s work as a school psychologist provides her unique insights into how children function in the school settings and enables her to collaborate with teachers and other school-based professionals to create specific academic, behavioral and social-emotional interventions that boost a child’s performance. She makes every effort to understand the whole child and uncover their unique profile of strengths and weaknesses through her in-depth, comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations.
Dr. Katz has worked with individuals, from infancy through young adulthood, who present an extensive range of complex academic, behavioral, emotional, and medical concerns, including: ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, developmental delays, intellectual impairment, genetic disorders, Tourette’s syndrome, anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder and the full range of learning disabilities including dyslexia. Her work has encompassed students and families from a wide variety of backgrounds, geographically, ethnically, and socio-economically.
Dr. Katz utilizes her training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to provided specialized behavior plans for individual children, teacher consultation, crisis interventions, classroom social skills training, and individualized therapy. Through her training and work experiences, she has worked to not only understand a child’s underlying cognitive processes, but also explore the impact of a child’s environment upon their functioning. In this way, she is able to collaborate with the important adults in a child’s life to problem-solve and implement simple, practical solutions to set children up for success.
Above all else, Dr. Katz is a working mother of two and understands the challenges that parents face in trying to implement best practices into the real world. She lives in Southern California with her two young children, husband, and dog, Roscoe.
